Top Things To Know

1) Qualifying Gets Underway

Qualifying matches start Saturday, and Americans feature heavily in the qualifying draw.Colton Smithisseeded No. 7 as he looks to gain experience on the professional stage after playing at the University of Arizona, whileZachary Svajdaclaims the No. 4 spot. Also in the mix are Delray Beach Open veteransMichael MmohandYoshihito Nishioka, the former a past quarterfinalist and the latter the 2020 finalist. The top seed goes to AustralianAdam Walton,who is currently ranked No. 93. The players who win two rounds in qualifying will advance to the main draw on Monday.

 

2) Don’t Let His Ranking Fool You…

While qualifying wild cardBenjamin Willwerthmay be ranked No.1608on the professional tour, he’s only 18 years of ageand holds the No.4spot in the ITF Junior world rankings. He’s coming off a finals appearance in the Australian Open junior event, and hails locally from Jupiter. He’ll take on No. 8 seedSho Shimabukoroon Court 1.

 

3) Baby Legend Makes an Entrance

Congratulations to two-time DBO champion and current Legends playerXavier Malisse,who welcomed baby James to his family last month. Fans can see Xavier play in both the day and night sessions on Saturday and on Sunday morning.

 

4) Brothers vs Brothers

Two of the most iconic doubles teams ever in professional tennis face off in the Legends event on Saturday night - the Jensen brothers vs the Bryan brothers. In the '90s,Luke and Murphy Jensenwon the French Open and brought a level of entertainment to professional tennis not seen before. In the 2000s,Bob and Mike Bryantook up the mantel and became the greatest team in history, winning 16 Grand Slams, an Olympic gold medal and a record six Delray Beach Open titles together.

 

5) Busy Saturday Around the Site

Qualifying and Legends matches aren't the only tennis happening around the site on Saturday. Several events will take place on the clay courts:

Legends Clinic, 9:45 - 10:45 am

USTA Florida Kids Day, 10:30 – 11:30 am

Delray Youth Foundation Clinic, 11:30 am -12:30 pm

Love Serving Autism Clinic, 1 – 2 pm
